Well, friends – LUKE AND I ARE OFFICIALLY HOMEOWNERS!!!! Happy Valentines Day to us!!! We were supposed to close on the 12th, but it got moved to the 14th and I think this will be a Valentines Day we’ll certainly remember!! 🙂
It has been 15 months since we moved out of our rental house in Luke’s last year of pharmacy school and didn’t want to buy since we didn’t know where we would live after graduation and didn’t want to rent since there was only 5 months until graduation. Well, 6 months turned into over a year of living with my parents, saving money, job searching, house searching, begging the Lord to give us clear direction and here we are!! Finally! Praise the Lord!! His plans are truly always better and the past year has been a blessing and a trial in so many ways and has deepened our dependence on the Lord and one another. He is just so kind, because this house is perfect for us!!
When we saw it come on the market, we both thought immediately, “Well, this is our house!” But…it was a wishful and crazy thought because we still had so much to figure out before we could make an offer and we just knew it would be gone within a day or two.
Then came the longest week of our life! Literally 7 days felt like 40. All within the week it came on the market, we squared away all our financing, prayed a lot, talked to our parents, talked to our realtor, went to see it in person (because it was still on the market, praise!), fell even more in love, made an offer the next morning (and then ensued 7 hours of torture where our stomachs were in knots wondering if they would accept), went under contract and boom! Then came the EXCITEMENT and the OVERWHELM and the “holy crap are we actually buying a house!?”
This house has so much of what we were looking for, down to the smallest and most not necessary details, which is just evidence that Jesus loves the details and loves to surprise us in special ways. For example, I’ve always wanted a ranch house in an old established neighborhood with a brick back-splash, a wood-burning fireplace near the kitchen, and a sink with no divider. This house has all of those things and I can’t recall a single other house having even half of those things in the 14 months we’ve spent looking at realtor.com every day. All in His timing!!
Also, this house is move in ready which is a HUGE blessing as we won’t have to worry about repairs and such for a long time! Below are the pictures from realtor.com that I will want to remember and look back on. It was built in 1956 but has been completely remodeled inside and has brand new roof, HVAC, wiring, gutters, windows, etc! It has so much of its original charm yet functions as a new house! Woohoo! We can’t wait to make this place our HOME! Full disclosure: will probably have no furniture for at least two months because tax season + well hello we just spent a huge chunk of cash on this house haha.
